A couple sitting apart after a difficult conversation

Our Framework

You Are Not Just Reacting to What Is Happening Now.

You may be responding from programming that was created years before this relationship ever began.

Many of the reactions disrupting your relationship today were formed in childhood, during painful experiences, or inside previous relationships.

At one point, these patterns may have protected you.

Today, they may be controlling you.

You become defensive before you understand why. You withdraw when your partner needs connection. You attack when you feel misunderstood. You repeat the same behavior, regret it afterward, and promise yourself you will respond differently next time.

Then the pattern happens again.

The M.I.N.D. Method was created to help you recognize the programming operating beneath your behavior, change the pattern, and intentionally become the person you know you are capable of being.

The Method

M.I.N.D.

Mapping Identity through Neurological Deconstruction

M

Mapping

See the triggers, meanings, emotional loops, and repeating patterns that are operating now.

I

Identity

Recognize who you become under pressure and what that identity is trying to protect.

N

Neurological

Understand the automatic associations that can activate before you consciously choose a response.

D

Deconstruction

Break down the old internal map so a more intentional pattern can take its place.

The M.I.N.D. Method is a transformational process designed to uncover the unconscious identity patterns driving your behavior.

By deconstructing your old internal map, we reveal the hidden structure behind your current behavior.

Much of this programming may have been installed in childhood, reinforced through painful experiences, or carried forward from previous relationships. Years later, you may still be running these destructive patterns on autopilot.

The M.I.N.D. Method helps you update that internal operating system so your past no longer determines how you communicate, connect, make decisions, or respond under pressure.

Couples may discover the method while seeking couples counseling or marriage counseling and find the work goes beneath the conversation itself.

You cannot become the person you know you are capable of being while remaining controlled by programming you never consciously chose.

The Pattern in Real Life

The Trigger May Be Happening Now.Your Reaction May Be Coming From Years Ago.

  1. 1

    Your partner says something.

  2. 2

    You assign meaning to it.

  3. 3

    Your nervous system recognizes danger.

  4. 4

    Your protective identity takes control.

  5. 5

You defend, attack, withdraw, shut down, pursue, criticize, or disconnect.

  6. 6

Your partner reacts to your reaction.

  7. 7

Now both of you are fighting from survival.

The original issue disappears, and the destructive cycle takes over.

Different argument. Same pattern.

A couple caught in a familiar pattern of emotional distance
“I had my first couple therapy session with Jason. I feel like I learned so much on our first session already about the cycles that we both fall into over and over and why things aren't working and fall back into the same routine. I really feel that he listens to what we say and pays attention. He doesn't waste time , gives us a full hour like we paid for.”

Survival Identity

The Version of You That Once Kept You Safe May Now Be Keeping You Stuck.

Every person develops ways to survive emotionally.

You may have learned to become silent, aggressive, hyper-independent, controlling, pleasing, avoidant, or emotionally guarded.

At one point, that identity served a purpose.

It helped you survive rejection, instability, abandonment, betrayal, criticism, shame, or emotional neglect.

But an identity formed for survival can become destructive when it continues operating decades after the original danger has passed.

You are no longer that child. You are no longer in that previous relationship. But under emotional pressure, your mind may still respond as if you are.

The M.I.N.D. Method helps you identify when your Survival Identity has taken control and teaches you how to respond from awareness, ownership, and intention instead.

This is often the unseen weight underneath recurring conflict, and the reason rebuilding trust after betrayal requires more than an apology.

“I have been seeing Nancy for about 3 months now and if I had to sum up my experience in two words I'd say: LIFE CHANGING. My view and perspective on my daily situations and life in general have vastly improved. I am no longer the impulsive reactive person I once was. My loved ones have definitely noticed this change in me. She is able to relay information to me in a way that I can understand. I love all the feedback she provides and the homework assignments she leaves for me. We just began hypnotherapy and I was very shocked with the impact it had on me. She makes me feel seen, heard and most importantly, empowered.”

Two Ways of Responding

Every Difficult Conversation Builds the Relationship or Destroys It.

Builder Mode

Protecting the relationship.

  • Curiosity.
  • Ownership.
  • Listening.
  • Resolution.
  • Respect.
  • Connection.

Destroyer Mode

Protecting the ego.

  • Criticism.
  • Blame.
  • Defensiveness.
  • Winning.
  • Contempt.
  • Withdrawal.

Destroyer Mode does not always mean someone wants to destroy the relationship. It means their protective identity has taken control.

Builder Mode requires something different: the ability to feel deeply, think clearly, and act deliberately even when emotions rise.

The M.I.N.D. Method teaches couples how to recognize the shift into Destroyer Mode and return to the behaviors capable of creating resolution.

“My husband had one solo session with Tamara and his second session it was both of us, and I already feel better about growing and healing both of us! Definitely looking forward to next Wednesday and applying the tools we were given today!”

SOC: Solution Oriented Communication

Talking Is Not the Same as Resolving.

Many couples communicate constantly.

They explain. Defend. Interrupt. Repeat themselves. Raise their voices. Shut down. Walk away.

Then return to the same conversation without resolving anything.

The M.I.N.D. Method helps couples adopt a structured process for communication through SOC: Solution Oriented Communication.

Couples often arrive after months of communication breakdown, some while considering couples therapy, looking for conflict resolution that actually resolves something.

Communicate Toward

  • Clarity.
  • Mutual understanding.
  • Accountability.
  • Practical decisions.
  • Behavioral agreements.
  • Measurable progress.
The goal is not simply to express yourself. The goal is to communicate in a way that creates progressive results in the relationship.
“My husband and I started therapy three months ago with Tamara, and I truly can't express how grateful we are. Working with her has completely changed our relationship for the better. Her guidance, compassion, and the tools she shares have helped us grow individually and together. She reminds you that real change takes effort, but when you put in the work, it truly pays off. I am now continuing therapy one on one with Tamara, and it has been such a healing experience. She makes me feel deeply heard, understood, and safe. I never feel judged, only supported and encouraged. Every session feels meaningful, and I always leave with more clarity and confidence. I 100% recommend therapy with Tamara to anyone looking for real support and positive change.”

Intentional Change

What Changes When You Can Finally See the Pattern?

Recognition creates a choice where there used to be an automatic reaction. The work is to practice that choice until a different way of responding becomes possible.

  • Recognize the identity operating beneath your reactions.
  • Interrupt destructive conflict before it takes control.
  • Understand what your partner is actually trying to communicate.
  • Listen so your partner feels seen, heard, and understood.
  • Replace blame and defensiveness with ownership.
  • Resolve conflict through a repeatable structure.
  • Rebuild trust through consistent behavior.
  • Release outdated emotional programming.
  • Develop healthier habits and relationship disciplines.
  • Respond intentionally instead of reacting automatically.
  • Become the version of yourself you know is possible.
“I reached out to Tamara for help with issues that were affecting my marriage. Through her guidance, I've been able to overcome multiple addictions and gain a deeper understanding of myself. My wife and I can't express how thankful we are for everything she's done. I've learned so much, and most importantly, I've been able to strengthen my relationship with my wife and our kids. Thank you so much, Tamara, for making such a positive difference in our lives.”

Origin and Authority

This Method Was Not Created in a Classroom. It Was Built Through 25 Years of Human Transformation.

For 25 years, Armando Perez has studied and practiced emotional and behavioral change, human awareness, psychology, spirituality, accountability, leadership, identity, and personal transformation.

For the past 17 years, Self Help LA has applied and refined this work with individuals and couples facing conflict, betrayal, emotional disconnection, destructive habits, unresolved pain, and deeply ingrained relationship patterns.

The M.I.N.D. Method did not emerge from one theory or one moment of inspiration.

It evolved through tens of thousands of hours spent helping real people understand their behavior, change long-standing patterns, rebuild their relationships, and create lives no longer controlled by the past.

Every person who entered our offices taught us something.

Their pain revealed the pattern. Their courage revealed what was possible. Their consistency revealed what produced lasting change.

“Armando, thank you for an amazing session today. Within 10 to 15 minutes Armando guided me into a deep rooted childhood issue that had been blocking me and my relationships for the last 30 years. He guided me back into my childhood. I saw my younger self, the personal relationship I was struggling with. He guided me through a visualization that allowed me to bring healing to my 7 year old self, my family member and my current self. I cried, I yawned and had chills all over my body as the energy shifted through my body. He guided me with words, energy and actions to rewrite the story from my past, so I can create a whole new future. It was profound and beautiful. Armando is a top quality professional and a master of his craft. 10 out of 10 stars.”

Stewardship

The Honor of Being Entrusted With People's Lives

For 17 years, people have trusted Self Help LA with the most personal parts of their lives:

Their pain. Their habits. Their behavior. Their psychology. Their relationships. Their families. Their future.

Being entrusted with tens of thousands of lives is an honor we do not take lightly.

We have watched people arrive feeling hopeless and leave with clarity.

We have watched couples resolve conflicts they believed would end their relationship.

We have watched people release emotional baggage they had carried for decades.

We have watched individuals recognize themselves, reclaim ownership, and become someone they once believed existed only in their imagination.

These transformations did not happen because someone received more information. They happened because someone finally recognized the pattern, followed a structured process, and remained committed long enough to change it.

“Highly recommended! Spoke with Armando initially regarding my needs and was offered their service immediately. Had my session with Ms. Leticia and how I wish everyone in the world had the same wisdom as she does. Very helpful and enlightening! Would definitely consider going back once financially stable. Thank you!”
